The Islamic Institute of Knowledge's plans for the new Funeral prep Facility were approved and the countdown for the construction phase has started. The next step is to start the bid process and get the best price available for the best quality offered. We expect construction to start sometime in the mid to late Spring Allah Willing. Back on January 10,2011, the Dearborn City Plan Commission approved a request by the Islamic Institute of Knowledge to allow special use of the 6333 Schaefer property. This approval allows the Islamic Institute to build its new, long awaited, Funeral Prep Facility within that property. Efforts are being made to speed the process of finalizing the engineering design for the project. The plans are ciurrently at about 95% complete. After the plans are finalized and approved, the Islamic Institute of Knowledge can apply to obtain the proper permits to start the construction phase of this project. The Islamic Institute of Knowledge has been diligently working on making sure all paperwork and permits are granted to start construction since November 2009.
Back on October 11, 2010, the Dearborn City Council in its regular meeting unanimously adopted Resolution number 10-599-10 for the rezoning of the properties located at 6333 Schaefer - Previously a restaurant, 6345 Schaefer - The Islamic Institute of Knowledge, and 6409 Schaefer - The American Islamic Academy, from a Residential A (One Family Residential) to a Business B (Community Business District) zoning classification. This change allowed the Islamic Institute of Knowledge to proceed with its initial plan to convert the 6333 property into a Funeral Prep Facility after all the drawings are approved by the City.
A finalized copy of the drawings was re-submitted to the City Clerk at the City of Dearborn for final approval within a couple of weeks after all changes required by the City of Dearborn were updated and finalized.
